The Art of Celebration

I love old hymns and new songs! Last week I came across a band that might just be my new favorite. Rend Collective, an Irish band, released their new album on St. Patrick's Day. Check out the story of their new album and the song that first caught my attention, My Lighthouse.

Our new traditional St. Patrick's Day celebration is to participate in Seattle's St. Pat's Dash. This is the 30th year of the dash. Some 4,000 participated in the rain, from serious runners to strollers and wheelchairs. Most in costume. I was excited to wear my new camo running skirt(I was just trying to blend in.) The picture doesn't really portray the true colors. It's neon green with iridescent dots. It was fun to make, I found a  simple tutorial on Youtube and it cost under $5.

Here are some of my pix from the day,
they aren't the best.

 People dress really crazy.

In fact, we decided people in Seattle like to play dress up, even in the rain!

After the dash we warmed up with Irish stew, Reuban sandwiches and Irish coffee at Paddy Coynes. Then made a trip to Seattle's REI.

How do you like to celebrate? Our celebrations usually involve food and very often a hike! I love that God commands us to celebrate! And "seriousness is not a fruit of the spirit, but joy is."

  1. I couldn't help but laugh when I read your last sentence ;). It's true, joy is such a great gift! And a great fruit of the Spirit of course.

We celebrate with food (dinners, or just something special like a cake) and sometimes with music (Rend Collective is awesome for that :))

  2. Looks like a really fun day :) I'd love to celebrate by actually going to Ireland. My sister-in-law did this once & it sounds like the greatest way to celebrate, ever! That & Irish Soda Bread, yum...

  9. I loved your remark that seriousness is not fruit of the Spirit but joy is - and it looks like Seattle just demonstrates that joy by wearing outlandish costumes to run on St. Patricks day.

    1. That was a quote from Rend Collective, I loved it when I heard it, too! Outlandish is the perfect description for what folks wore to run:)

  10. Looks like fun to run in the rain and then have a great meal! We usually don't celebrate but this year my husband wanted corned beef and cabbage so he made it himself! I made a reuben sandwich out of it and it was so good!

    1. We're a little bit Irish, so we like to do a little something. On St. Pat's Day we made a Reuben pizza with a cauliflower crust. It was pretty tasty.

  11. Hi, Linda! I just discovered your blog this morning and so glad that I did. That quote you included at the end has really given me alot to think about today. I love to have fun and always want to be filled with true joy, but find that I too often get caught in all the busyness and get way too serious. Thanks for giving me a new perspective!
    Have a great day!

    1. That quote is definitely food for thought. It's very easy to get caught up in business and busyness, sort of like the story of Mary and Martha...
